From Winter to Summer in the Rockies

In Canada, the transition from winter to summer

is one of the most exciting times of the year, especially here in the majestic Rocky Mountains. For us at Dare and Explore, who live for adventure every day, this season means putting away the skis, saying goodbye to the snow, and welcoming green grass, dry trails, and the bright, warm sun. It’s time to swap skis for mountain bikes, snowshoeing for rock climbing, and heavy ski pants for shorts and t-shirts!

During these transitional weeks, temperatures can change rapidly. We might be enjoying a sunny 20°C day, and just hours later, find ourselves under clouds and fresh snowfall with temperatures dropping to -2°C. However, even when it snows, it doesn’t last long. Trees are starting to bloom, announcing that summer is just around the corner.

As we leave winter behind, one of our favorite rituals begins: cleaning, repairing, and storing all our winter gear. Skis, boots, snowboards, and snowshoes are serviced and put away for the next season. At the same time, we open the storage area and bring out the mountain bikes, adjusting brakes, cleaning frames, lubricating chains, and making sure they’re ready to roll along the stunning trails of the Rockies.

Summer in The Rockies

Speaking of trails, part of our summer preparation at Dare and Explore is re-exploring them. We hike the trails that were closed or buried in snow during winter, check their condition, clear fallen branches, and ensure everything is perfect for our upcoming Banff Tours and Rockies Tours.

Another highlight of the summer season is kicking off rock climbing in the mountains. Feeling the warm rock under our hands again, with the sun shining above, is an unmatched experience. Whether in Canmore, Kananaskis, or Banff, we start setting up climbing routes, checking anchors, and getting ready to offer breathtaking views that only Rockies Tours can provide.

This season is also key for the final preparations of our Campamento de verano 2025. Many young adventurers are eagerly waiting for July to experience a journey filled with exploration, learning, adventure, and friendship. The landscapes we start scouting now are the same ones that our campers will discover later, and we want everything to be perfect for them.

Every year, this transition from winter to summer reminds us why we love our work and this place so much. Watching nature awaken, seeing the animals return to the valleys, and witnessing the mountains explode with color fills us with energy and pushes us to continue exploring, crafting new adventures for all of you.
