Hello to all outdoor enthusiasts! I’m Ernesto Lozano, Director and Founder of Dare and Explore. As always, I love sharing my passions with you: family life and, of course, the untamed majesty of the Canadian Rocky Mountains. With over 15 years of guiding experience, and armed with my various certifications (Avalanche Safety Training, Lead Climber, Ski Instructor, Wilderness First Aid), I’ve learned that the magic of this place isn't just in what you see, but in how you experience it.
Canada, and especially the Rockies of Alberta and British Columbia, is globally recognized as one of the most beautiful places to connect purely with nature. Its landscapes are on another level: turquoise lakes, snow-capped peaks, dense forests, and wildlife that reminds you just how small you are. This spectacle draws tourists from all over the world—nature lovers and adventurers who want to see these marvelous places with their own eyes.
But this is where we step in. At Dare and Explore, based in Calgary, we don't just sell a tour; we create a personalized, total immersion adventure.

The First Contact: From Tourist to Adventurer
For us, an epic adventure is not a pre-packaged product. It is a work of art designed specifically for you. Therefore, everything begins with the first contact, which is the most crucial stage. Before we start putting together a route or an itinerary, we want to know everything about you and your travel companions.
The average tour company asks you how many days you have and which attractions you want to visit. We go much deeper. We want to know:
What are you really looking for? Peace and contemplation, or adrenaline and physical challenge?
What is your experience level? Have you skied before? Do you hike regularly? Do you have experience with rock climbing or mountain biking?
Who are the adventurers? If you are traveling with your family (like me with my 6 children), we need to know the ages of the youngest (planning for a 5-year-old who needs naps and games is different from planning for a 16-year-old who wants to summit). This information is vital to ensure everyone enjoys the trip to the maximum, from the easiest stroll to family skiing in Nakiska.
What is your perceived limit? We ask you, for example, how many meters of elevation or how many kilometers you think you can climb. This gives us a baseline, which we are usually ready to safely exceed when the adventure demands it.
Are there specific interests? Photography, birdwatching, mining history, geology? This allows us to incorporate unique, enriching stops along the route.
After this detailed initial contact, and once we have a clear profile of our adventurers, we begin the planning. We adapt every day, every hour, and every trail to the needs and actual condition of each of our clients.

The Dare and Explore Philosophy: The Personalized Map
Our planning is a living process. It’s not just about the route, but about strategy, safety, nutrition, and logistics. For example, if you have intermediate experience but dream of more aggressive skiing, we will use the first day at a resort like Nakiska (ideal for family skiing and warming up) to assess your skills and refine your technique, before taking you to the most challenging black runs or into the sidecountry.
The difference between the experience you think you can have and the one we guarantee on our adventures is vast. And that is the promise of Dare and Explore.
H2: The Dare and Explore Promise: Going Beyond the Tourist Bus
I want to be very emphatic: we are very different from a traditional tour company. Of course, we will take you to the iconic places you must see: Lake Louise, Banff, Moraine Lake (conditions permitting), Emerald Lake, etc. These places form the backbone of the Rockies' beauty.
But beyond the iconic, we go much further:
Less-Traveled Trails: We will take you to trails that only locals know, offering spectacular views without the saturation of tourists. We explore dense forests, powerful rivers, and hidden lakes you never imagined existed.
Deep Immersion Adventure: We want you to live the experience rather than just look at it. See that river? We’ll take you along it. See that forest? We’ll venture deep inside. We are not a transportation service; we are your personalized expedition team.
Safe Boundary Pushing: We will take you beyond your perceived limits, but always with my experience and certifications (like Wilderness First Aid) as backup. The difference between where you think you can reach and where you arrive on one of our adventures is significant.
Many of our clients have commented at the end of the trip that they didn't believe they were capable of reaching where we took them. That is the sense of accomplishment we seek: not just seeing the beauty, but feeling it through your own effort and triumph.
H3: Testimonials of Achievement: The "I Didn't Think I Could" Effect
This effect of surprise and satisfaction is the reason Dare and Explore exists. There is nothing more rewarding than seeing the expression on a client's face upon reaching a remote viewpoint after a challenging climb. It is the realization that the mind is the true limit, and the body, with the right guidance and strategy, can achieve feats that seemed impossible.
These are the kinds of experiences that strengthen bonds, create unforgettable memories, and define the quality of life we all seek.
H2: Tailored Adventures: From the Ice of Winter to the Fire of Summer
Our capacity for personalization shines when contrasting our winter and summer offerings. No matter the season, we plan trips from 4 to 17 days tailored to your dreams and needs.

❄️ The Magic and Challenge of Winter
Winter in the Rockies is a white work of art. Here, adventures go far beyond the main slopes:
Elite and Family Alpine Skiing: You will have several alpine skiing sessions on the best mountains in the area, such as Lake Louise, Sunshine Village, or the extreme adventure in Kicking Horse. But if you are traveling with the whole family, the fun starts in places perfect for everyone, like Family Skiing in Nakiska. At Nakiska, we can work on the technique of the youngest on gentle, fun slopes, ensuring everyone (from the 5-year-old to the 16-year-old) enjoys the experience to the maximum.
Ice Exploration: We take you to frozen waterfalls that look like glass cathedrals. We do ice walks in canyons and snowshoeing tours on silent, pristine trails.
Frozen Lake Fun: One of the most magical experiences is skating on naturally frozen and safe lakes. It is an activity that unites the family and is purely Canadian.
☀️ The Exuberance and Discovery of Summer
When the snow retreats, the Rockies reveal an explosion of color and life. The possibilities multiply:
Discovery Hiking: We take you on nearly unexplored trails, far from the high-season crowds, where wildlife is the protagonist.
Rock Climbing: If you seek adrenaline, we will guide you on rock climbing routes appropriate to your level, testing your concentration and strength.
Mountain and Road Biking: From quiet routes along the valleys to technical descents on the mountains, we plan the cycling route that matches your condition.
Water Adventure: River exploration and, if the group is ready, a run through intermediate rapids.
Conclusion: Investing in Epic Memories
Our commitment at Dare and Explore is to take care of every detail so that your trip is pleasant, safe, and, above all, profoundly memorable. We plan every step with you so you can enjoy it to the fullest, offering trips from 4 to 17 days that will become the standard by which you measure all your future adventures.
We guarantee that your experience will be truly unforgettable—one that will leave you not only with spectacular photos but with stories of personal achievement that you will tell for years to come.
Do not hesitate to contact us to plan your next trip. We guarantee it will be epic.
